somatic Therapy
Trauma, chronic stress, and the weight of holding it all together don't just live in the mind, they live in the body. It’s the jaw that won't unclench, the chest that stays braced, the shoulders that never quite come down. Talking about these patterns builds insight and awareness, but insight alone rarely helps them resolve.
WHAT SOMATIC
Somatic therapy is a body-centered approach to therapy that works directly with the nervous system — not just the thinking mind — as the primary site of change. Rather than focusing exclusively on thoughts or the narrative of what happened, we track what's happening in the body in real time: sensation, breath, posture, movement, activation and stillness.
This isn't about performing relaxation or learning to breathe correctly. This is about building a genuine relationship with your own nervous system state moment to moment and growing your capacity to be with the stress that has been suppressed.
As a somatic therapist in Carmel, I bring this lens to all of my work. Every session is informed by an understanding of how the body holds stress and how it recovers.
THERAPY IS
Somatic Therapy Could Be A Good Fit If:
you've spent time in talk therapy and it hasn’t helped very much
you understand your patterns but can't seem to change them
stress lives in your body in ways that feel physical — chronic tension, fatigue, a low hum of anxiety that is always present
It's also well-suited for women who are highly self-aware and ready to go deeper than insight alone. Who want a therapeutic relationship that honors both the precision of nervous system science and the fullness of their inner life.
In-person sessions in Carmel. Telehealth available throughout California and Idaho.
